AI technologies that automatically generate content such as text, music, images, and programs—commonly referred to as generative AI or generative-type AI—have been attracting a lot of attention lately. While there are still various issues and challenges to be addressed, and some efforts are being made to impose restrictions on its use, there is no turning back when it comes to technological innovation. It is certain that generative AI will continue to evolve rapidly as it passes through various phases. Just as Google Search has become an essential part of our daily lives, generative AI will eventually become something we take for granted as well.
Every technological innovation has both positive and negative aspects. If we are overly dependent on the technology and unprepared for its downsides, it can lead to various problems, including potential misuse in crimes or warfare. However, if we can successfully harness the positive aspects and apply the technology effectively, it can significantly improve the quality of our work and daily lives—which would be truly remarkable.
I myself have been using ChatGPT with caution, trying out various things, and I find it incredibly useful, especially when composing English text. It’s almost as if I have a native English teacher sitting right next to me. Since I started using ChatGPT, I’ve found myself rarely using Google Translate or DeepL anymore.
It’s easy to understand why Google, now a major corporation, has been feeling the pressure from the emergence of ChatGPT—a product developed by OpenAI, a venture company backed by Microsoft. I’ve heard that many of the core engineers who developed ChatGPT actually came from Google, which really illustrates the dynamic nature of innovation.
